Plastic Memories 01 ( First Impressions )

Plastic Memories is a 2015 summer release, written by Naotaka Hayashi and released by Doga Kobo.

So what's our first impressions, this is a futuristic sci-fi romance. No tentacles involved !
We have a weird start to the show with the protagonist Mizugaki Tsukasa stating that he may have fallen in love with a girl who has never met before. In a small space, in a dark lift . . . probably not the best place to find love but maybe that's the way its done in this century.

Clearly this is the female protagonist! She seems to be a rather young looking teenage girl, she seems rather fragile with lilac hair in 2 pony tails and red eyes. But obviously he has no idea who or what she is!

From here we move on to find out that Tsukasa's father has managed to rig him a job as he knows the boss and we soon move into newbies first day.

We go on to me the other main characters through out the series, we don't learn much about them and they haven't had a chance yet to develop. But i think the most outrageous thing we learn here is that the company sell Giftia's (Androids) who are treated like family or loved ones for nine years ..... then "terminated" by terminal service. No Arnold Schwarzenegger jokes please.
But honestly what the hell!
Does nobody question this ? Has nobody thought, maybe we should make longer batteries. why would anyone want t get emotionally attached to something that they are knowingly going to lose.

Anyway lets meet the characters:

Mizugaki Tsukasa
Tsukasa is the 18-year-old male protagonist. After failing his college entrance exams due to medical problems, he eventually gets a job  on Terminal Service No. 1, although he initially does not know what they do. He is assigned as Isla's spotter and soon becomes attached to her, unaware that she is at the end of her lifespan. When he finally finds out, he refuses to abandon Isla and continues to be her partner. This guy kinda seems a bit hopeless, just your average joe and knowing that giftias only have a life span of 9 years he falls for one anyway.

Isla
Isla, the female protagonist, is a Giftia who has a childish appearance with twintails, has a tendency to trip and fall on objects, and causes those around her to feel the fleetingness of life. She is said to be a veteran at the department and was once partnered with Kazuki as her marksman. After that, all she does is serve tea at SAI Corp, until Tsukasa arrives, to which she becomes his marksman and is put back in the field again, despite having less than 2,000 hours until the end of her lifespan. She eventually develops feelings for Tsukasa.

Finally a character who is as clumsy as me! She is just as hopeless as Tsukasa if not even more so, however she seems like she has just been forgotten about and left to make tea.

Back to the show . . . with out any training or knowledge Tsukasa is paired with Isla and they are sent out on their first case, they are off to "retrieve" Nina from her "grandmother" who isn't ready to say good bye. The show quickly goes from first impressions t deep emotions as she reluctantly signs the release forms to have Nina retrieved.

Ooooh! Right in the feelings . . .  don't be afraid to cry people.

From lackluster to realness all in 20 minutes this has been a rather roller coaster introduction to a new show and sets the tone for the rest of the series, if romances aren't for you I would still recommend that you give it a try its not heavily depended on the romance and does have some good slapstick in this.

Overall ill give this show 3 castella cakes out of 5

See you next week
