06 The Meat Invader

I wish my rice balls turned out triangular !

We last time we left Soma getting acquainted with his new room mates, they soon find out that they can join clubs and set out to search for one. Soma and Megumi look for a club to join and stumble upon the Don Research Society, who is targeted for disbandment by Erina for her expansion project. One of Erina's enforcers Ikumi Mito challenges the club president Kanichi Konishi telling him that no matter what he cooks that his dish will never beat her A5 grade meat.

Seeing the events unfold, Soma volunteers to partake in the Shokugeki in Kanichi's place with the challenge being to cook a dburi ondish. The stakes are that a victory results in the club staying with Ikumi joining, while a defeat results in Soma's expulsion and the club disbanding.


In preparing for the Shokugeki, Soma makes numerous donburi dishes through research and modifies them with the realization that the club's budget is limited. Soma settles on the Chaliapin steak, while Ikumi contacts her family to deliver the best cut of A5 grade beef available. 

07 The Quiet Don the Eloquent Don

Ding Ding Ding !

At the Shokugeki, Ikumi wows the audience with her A5 grade beef, while Soma draws jeers for using discounted beef from the supermarket. Ikumi completes her A5 Japanese Beef Roti Don first and the judges were impressed with the taste of her beef. Soon after, Soma presents his Chaliapin Steak Don to the judges and after initially refusing to taste it, the judges eat his dish and could not stop eating resulting in a unanimous win for Soma. 

I am physically drooling right now

Soma critiques Ikumi's dish pointing out that she misunderstood the concept of making a donburi by placing too much emphasis on the beef and not the donburi as a whole as the judges were too full from eating the beef that they didn't finish the rice. With Soma's victory, Ikumi joins the Don RS, while Soma declines to join the club as he only came to the club to develop a new donburi dish.

The story line .... is going somewhere. Where ? I don't know i feel this needs to be elaborated more. Some of the music they use when people are eating the food is just hilarious and definitely adds to the show.

So far its good but its not great it doesn't compel me to watch it but I'm sure things will heat up, I would rate Food Wars! 6 out of 10.
